Food Technologist

Lisle, IL

The Food Technologist will support and assist in the operation of the R&D Pilot Plant in Chicagoland area. This position will be responsible for executing trials and operating the process equipment with GMPs under general supervision while maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary work area. This role will work with the Innovation Center Manager to make recommendations to the Product Developers and Project Leads regarding product scale up and commercialization.

• Assemble, operate, and dismantle the pilot plant equipment used in testing
• Organize and perform pilot plant trials in a safe and efficient manner
• Support developers, Pilot Plant team members and others in pilot plant trial planning, preparation, execution, follow up, review and process improvement
• Document the data and prepare summaries of trial results with recommendations for processing and/or product improvements based on observations
• Calibrate and complete preventive maintenance of pilot plant equipment
• Maintain equipment in good sanitary and working condition
• Assist Product developers with benchtop work that may include pre-weighing, batching, data collection etc.
• Maintain a safe, clean and sanitary work area
• Assist with incoming ingredient shipments and outgoing finished products
• Responsible to follow and uphold all Food Safety, Food Quality, Occupational Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures as pertains to role
• Minor mechanical troubleshooting/repair/plumbing as required
• Actively participate in cross-training as needed as well as learning new skills required due to technology advances
• Review and update SOP's and SSOP's related to the Innovation Center as required
• Some travel required
• Other duties as assigned

• Minimum High School degree or equivalent
• Minimum three years of manufacturing experience working in a food or Pilot Plant Environment
is Preferred
• Operations of equipment and knowledge of all unit operations

• Strong communication: organizational, interpersonal skills with detail oriented
• Ability to work in a fast paced, robust, and inclusive environment
• Strong mathematical skills with excellent problem solving and equipment troubleshooting skills
• Ability to interact with colleagues from other functions to answer questions and plan activities
• Highly motivated, critical problem solver, results oriented, performance driven and easily adapts
to change
• Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Power Point, Word, Project

• Capability to lift 40 lbs. of product routinely and climb ladders to maintenance equipment
• Ability to work in cold processing rooms with temperatures around 40°F
• Prior forklift training/experience preferred
