Supply Chain/Demand Planner

Position Summary:
Responsible for tactical execution of supply and demand planning functions for assigned business units and categories.  Develops master production schedules & manages finished goods, work in process, excess & obsolete inventory.  Create statistical demand forecast models; review historical sales trends, research demand drivers, prepare forecast data, develop statistical forecast models, and evaluate forecast results.  Summarize/aggregate statistical forecasts and provide recommendations for business review and decision making.  Apply error analysis techniques to improve forecasting. This position is a key driver in ensuring adequate inventory is available to deploy in fulfillment of customer demand, while minimizing distressed product risks.  Manages short and long-term planning horizons of 13 weeks to 24 mos. for financial planning and capacity planning of production resources.  Work closely with Operations, Product Development and Project Management on new product introductions and phase outs/product life cycle management.  This person is also responsible for maintaining master data and product attributes within the planning systems.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of 52 wk rolling sales forecast for the business including growth initiatives, innovation, promotional activity, etc
  • Develop demand forecast reports at multiple levels of aggregation for multiple time horizons
  • Collaborate with cross functional partners to ensure inventory is managed according to constraints and targets that are aligned with the business strategy
  • Support and facilitate the S&OP process through all phases including – demand consensus, demand review, supply review, and capacity review discussions
  • Identify possible future capacity constraints and bottlenecks & address with the proper organizational resources
  • Analyze customer demand information and performance metrics to provide Sales with value added insights and recommendations
  • Oversee customer forecast accuracy, driving root cause analysis and leading corrective actions
  • Establish critical inventory parameters for Target & Safety Stock settings for finished goods, while considering supply lead time, warehouse and transportation constraints
  • Measure, analyze, and report key process metrics, while monitoring adherence to key performance indicators (KPI) that are assigned to the assigned product categories
  • Identify possible material shortages against inventory plans and develop action items.  Marshal resources to address action items and follow up on all material shortage-related issues. 
  • Strong written & oral Communications – including long-term capacity status, weekly category KPI updates, product shortage reporting & ad-hoc daily information flow amongst supply planning partners (Demand Planning, Customer Service, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Logistics, Business Management)  
  • Ability to complete standard planner responsibilities while addressing ad hoc reporting and business requests
  • Works well under pressure with limited supervision, and be able to make immediate value-based decisions

  • Education:
    • 4-year degree in supply chain management/operations/finance/engineering/mathematics
    • APICS CPIM or CSCP certification a plus
  • Skills:
    • Strong technical skills around data management
    • Well organized, with strong attention to details
    • Strong mathematical/statistical abilities
    • Hands on experience with modeling, analysis & simulation tools
    • Proven ability to build working business relationships
    • Communicate effectively with counterparts in supply planning, logistics and business management
    • High level of interpersonal skills & hands on experience working with multiple partners to resolve exceptions and negotiate best alternatives in meeting service level goals
    • Able to provide data to support & explain reasoning for decisions
    • Meets deadlines and works under pressure with limited supervision
  • Experience:
    • 5 years or more experience within supply/demand planning, inventory control, logistics management and/or manufacturing production – perishable manufacturing environment is desirable
    • Work experience in a team-based environment within manufacturing or supply chain
    • Experience with SAP and its related supply chain applications
    • Experience with Advance Planning Systems (JDA/APO/IBP/etc.) is desired
    • Proficiency using PC-base Technology is a must (Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word and Access)
